Robert Tindall was interviewed in January 2013 by Red Ice Radio. His work explores crossing of frontiers into other cultures and states of consciousness. He is the author of 2 books on shamanism, The Jaguar that Roams the Mind and The Shamanic Odyssey: Homer, Tolkien, and the Visionary Experience, along with numerous articles on the Native American prophetic tradition and the healing practices of the vegetalista tradition of the Amazon rainforest.
Tindall is a professor at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and holds 2 Master’s degrees in English. He and his wife Susana Bustos live in Peru and lead journeys into the Amazon rainforest to explore healing traditions. Robert points out the many parallels between Western mythologies such as
the Odyssey and the Illiad with indigenous cosmologies of the rainforest.

Tindall discusses shamanic aspects of Western mythology, the break from the indigenous mind, and the grave consequences. He compares this break to the Hopi prophecy of 2 roads humanity is traveling -- one leads to destruction and the other to renewal. He talks about shamanic aspects in the Odyssey, including its many references to powerful consciousness-altering plants. Tindall stresses the need for the West to "re-indigenize" now to save life on Earth.
