Going Native

The Shamanic Odyssey: Homer, Tolkien, and the Visionary Experience by Robert Tindall talks about the shamanic roots of Western culture. He discusses the need for the West to
"re-indigenize", to "go native" now.

Tindall points out: "No longer sharing in the primal experience of indigenous peoples, we literally cannot hear or see them properly....From these different regions come prophecies with a common theme of arriving at a point when 'the human family would face the choice of evolutionary transformation into symbiotic presence within the more-than-human world or to continue in the destruction of the planet'."

Tindall adds: "...the possibility of going neo-native, achieving a synthesis between scientific and indigenous ways of knowing is now possible....This does not mean a nostalgic retreat to the Americas of 1491."

The West must now undergo the 4 steps of Initiation to heal. This involves a death to the ego, rebirth, and true empowerment that is not alienated from other cultures, species, life, or the Earth. It is a shift in conciousness that has already begun in many ways.
