National Day of Transformation
Chi and Chakras
The concept of universal energy is basic to Eastern science, religion, and philosophy. It is called "chi" in China and "ki" in Korea and Japan. This concept is missing in the science of the West although it is now being rediscovered through quantum physics. When Wilhelm Reich tried to introduce the profound understanding of reality in America as "orgone energy", he was jailed and his books burned. He died in prison.

The concept of chakras is also missing in the West although it is reflected in the caduceus, the symbol of medicine and healing. This core concept can be used to understand individuals and whole cultures. For example, it could be said that the West is operating from the lower 3 chakras which are devoted to security, sex, and ego. Native American cultures are operating from the 4th-7th chakras which represent the heart, enlightened mind, and spirit.

As the masculine and feminine Kundalini energies (represented by snakes) rise from the Base Chakra and meet in the Crown Chakra, the person becomes enlightened. This state of consciousness is reflected in paintings of Jesus and saints with halos.
The concepts of chakras is very profound and can take many years of study to understand fully. It be being reintroduced to the West now thorugh martial arts, Tai-Chi, and acupuncture. There are many wonderful books about chakras including Anatomy of the Spirit: The Seven Stages of Power and Healing by Caroline Myss.
