 Maine TRC

The Governor of Maine and the Wabanaki nations created a Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) in 2011 -- an historic first in the U.S. The primary purpose is to shed
light on the abuses of boarding schools and forced adoptions of Native kids, promote healing, and improve public child policies.

This TRC is more effective than the Canadian TRC because it has a clear focus on change. However, it is restricted primarily to addressing child policies on a government level. Washington State shows a more comprehensive model that includes the whole community in making additional changes.
